what's in the flow?

charting your path

How’re you feeling about your life’s journey?

Recently, lot’s of folks have been telling me that they feel one of three things:
  • They’re on the hamster wheel of life and the pace feels overwhelming. Even if it is good, there’s no way to keep it up.
  • They’ve hit the doldrums. There’s been some major upset in their life and nothing really seems to be working right now.
  • They might look successful, but they feel very disconnected from their purpose.

Our path isn’t our career, roles, responsibilities, or the many ways that success gets defined by the world.

Our path is our soul’s journey.

We came here for some reason. For some purpose. Success is about being the fullness of who we came here to be.

It may seem really odd to link the words soul and success. But at the end of our life, we don’t look back on our career, roles, and responsibilities, we look back on our experiences, our purpose, our connections, and our impact.

We often use the transition from one year to the next as a time to assess where we are and to chart out the next year. However, the energy right now is calling us to a mid-year check-in.

This isn’t a time to do what others are telling us is right. This is a time to do the ‘right’ that is deep in our marrow; the right that we feel deep in our essence. Because this is our soul calling us to remember why we are here.

Charting our path starts with four questions:
  1. What is bubbling up for my life right now?
  2. What am I being called to allow into my life?
  3. What do I desire to let go of in my life?
  4. What first, simple, easy step(s) are in front of me?

These can usually be answered with a couple of words or a short sentence. Don’t analyze things too much. Just respond with whatever shows up first.

Sometimes it is easy to see an example. So here’s mine:
  1. What is bubbling up for my life right now? - integration of some ideas and recent learnings
  2. What am I being called to allow into my life? - time to think
  3. What do I desire to let go of in my life? - some long-standing commitments that feel like they’ve run their course
  4. What first, simple, easy step(s) are in front of me? - finishing out two things and getting them off the calendar, signing up for a transcription service, and asking someone if they’re willing to be part of something

Happy charting. And remember, your journey is yours.

Tai chi, qigong, meditation, and reiki have helped me learn that when we get quiet enough, a still point emerges. In this still point, we can tap into the energy flow in and around us. Intuitively, I use this still point to focus on what in the flow is relevant to our individual and collective journeys.
